View or change the URL for Project Server
 

A Uniform Resource Locator (URL) (URL: Uniform Resource Locator, which is a standard for naming and locating an object on the Internet, such as a file or newsgroup. URLs are used extensively on the World Wide Web. They are used in HTML documents to specify the target of a hyperlink.) for Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 and a user name are automatically set when you select a Project Server (Project Server: A Project companion product that enables collaborative planning and status reporting among workgroup members, project managers, and other stakeholders by working with and exchanging project information on a Web site.) account upon startup. If needed, you can view this information or change it to access another Project Server computer.

Note  If you're connected to Project Server, and your project is an enterprise project, you cannot change the URL to Project Server using this procedure.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Collaborate tab.
  2. In the Project Server URL box, view the URL for Project Server, or type a new URL.

    Note  If you don't know the URL for a specific Project Server computer, you can get it from your administrator (administrator: Sets up and manages user accounts, assigns permissions, and helps users with network or server access issues. This person can also manage and customize various elements in Project Professional and in Project Server.).

  3. Under Identification for Project Server, click:
    • Windows user account to use your Windows user account to identify yourself when logging on to Project Server. Windows user accounts offer the strongest security for your project files. When you access Project Server, you are automatically authenticated without the need to enter a user name or password.
    • Microsoft Office Project user name to use Project Server authentication and your user name (as it appears on the General tab of the Options dialog box) to identify yourself to Project Server. When you log on to Project Server, you are required to enter a user name and password.

    Note  By default, your password is blank the first time you log on to Project Server. You can set your password during your initial session.

    Security  Use strong passwords that combine upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Weak passwords don't mix these elements. Strong password: Y6dh!et5. Weak password: House27. Use a strong password that you can remember so that you don't have to write it down.

  4. To apply the collaboration settings you selected to all new projects, click Set as Default.
