Microsoft Office Project 2003 provides several templates (template: A Project file format [*.mpt] that lets you reuse existing schedules as the starting point for creating new schedules. Task and resource information, formatting, macros, and project-specific settings can all become part of a template.) you may want to use to start a new project.

ShowCommercial Construction template

Commercial builders, including general contractors and specialty subcontractors, can profit from applying project management techniques to control their operations. Projects may range from small kiosks to giant supermarkets, malls, and specialty buildings, such as hotels, hospitals and airports.

The process used for commercial construction is methodical and relatively standard for broad categories of structures. This building process is readily modeled by a critical path method (CPM) (CPM: A project management method of calculating the total duration of a project based on individual task durations and their dependencies.) schedule. That statement is key: the schedule (schedule: The timing and sequence of tasks within a project. A schedule consists mainly of tasks, task dependencies, durations, constraints, and time-oriented project information.) is a model of the builder's plan for the project.

This template includes the basic tasks required to construct a multiple-story commercial space and shows the relationships between those tasks. You can use the template strictly as a training tool or to guide development of custom schedules for your projects, or modify it and use it as the basis for an initial project schedule.

ShowEngineering template

The technical process of transforming a business opportunity into a facility that can be constructed is often described as the engineering phase of a project. The activities required to produce an engineering design are arranged and linked in a standard way.

The objective of this template is to identify the normal activities required for an effective engineering project and link them into a typical schedule (schedule: The timing and sequence of tasks within a project. A schedule consists mainly of tasks, task dependencies, durations, constraints, and time-oriented project information.) format. You can use this schedule strictly as a training tool, or modify it and use it as the basis for an initial project schedule.

ShowHome Move template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required to move your home. The template is designed to focus on the required steps to successfully move your home from one location to another.

ShowInfrastructure Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the full project life cycle of an infrastructure deployment process. The template is designed to focus on the required steps and processes to successfully initiate, design, and deploy a new infrastructure.

ShowMicrosoft Active Directory Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the installation and deployment of Microsoft Active Directory. The template contains the required steps and processes to successfully initiate, design, configure and deploy Microsoft Active Directory. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Deployment template because Windows Server 2003 deployment is an integral part of deploying Active Directory.

ShowMicrosoft Exchange 2000 Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the project life cycle of the Microsoft Exchange 2000 development process. The template is designed to focus on the steps and processes required to successfully deploy Microsoft Exchange 2000.

ShowMicrosoft Office 2003 Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the successful installation and deployment of the Microsoft Office System.

This template presents the deployment activities associated with implementing the Microsoft Office System. It identifies the key components to be considered when you plan your deployment. The template provides the process for deploying a proof-of-concept, a pilot, and a production system.

ShowMicrosoft SharePoint Portal Server "v2.0" Deployment template

This template presents the deployment activities associated with the implementation of SharePoint Portal Server. It identifies the key components to be considered when you plan your deployment and provides the process for deploying a pilot and a production system. Because SharePoint Portal Server depends on other servers, this template is intended to be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Deployment template as well as the Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Deployment template.

ShowMicrosoft Windows XP Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the full project life cycle of a software deployment process in terms of a software installation (for example, Microsoft Office Project 2003, Microsoft Office Suite XP, or Microsoft Exchange). The template is designed to focus on the required steps and processes to successfully initiate, design, and deploy a new software deployment.

ShowMSF Application Development template

The Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) template is based on the Process Model for Application Development, a key component of the MSF. This flexible model has been used successfully in the software industry to improve project control, minimize risk, improve product quality, and increase development speed.

The process model is developed as part of Microsoft's Principles of Application Development course. The template is intended to assist in applying the process model in practical situations; however, it does not take the place of the course itself.

ShowNew Business template

In this template the process of developing an entrepreneurial opportunity into a new operating business is divided into tasks and scheduled in logical sequence. The template may be customized to be used for a wide range of specific business situations.

ShowNew Product template

Developing new products effectively requires a disciplined approach. This discipline comes from generating reliable data and reviewing it at regular decision points to reaffirm the organizational commitment to continued development of the new product. This template is designed to provide the framework for developing a new product using a disciplined approach that should increase the success rate for new product development.

ShowOffice Move template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for an office move. The template is designed to focus on the required steps to successfully move your office from one location to another.

ShowProject Office template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the full project life cycle involved in the conceptualization, development, and creation of a project office. The template is designed to focus on the required steps and processes to successfully initiate, monitor, and establish an enterprise project office.

ShowResidential Construction template

Small home builders, including general contractors and specialty subcontractors, can profit from applying project management techniques to control their operations.

The process that builders use for residential construction is methodical and relatively standard. This building process, whether planned for a one-story, single-family unit or for a group of apartment units, is clearly modeled by a critical path method (CPM) (CPM: A project management method of calculating the total duration of a project based on individual task durations and their dependencies.) schedule. That statement is key: the schedule (schedule: The timing and sequence of tasks within a project. A schedule consists mainly of tasks, task dependencies, durations, constraints, and time-oriented project information.) is a model of the builder's plan for the project.

This template includes the basic tasks required to construct a single-family home and the logical relationships between those tasks. The template may be used strictly for training or to develop custom schedules for your projects, or it can be modified to use as the basis for an initial project schedule.

ShowSoftware Development template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the project life cycle of the software development process. The template is designed to focus on the steps and processes required to successfully initiate a software development process. You can use the template as is, or modify it for recursive development.

ShowSoftware Localization Deployment

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the project life cycle of the software localization process. The template is designed to focus on the steps and processes required to successfully deploy a software localization process.

ShowMicrosoft Windows SharePoint Services Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the successful installation and deployment of Windows SharePoint Services. This template presents the deployment activities associated with implementation of Windows SharePoint Services and identifies the key components to be considered when you plan your deployment. It also provides a process for deploying a pilot and a production system.

ShowMicrosoft Windows Server 2003 Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the installation and deployment of Microsoft Windows Server 2003. This template presents the deployment activities associated with implementation of Microsoft Windows Server 2003. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Active Directory Deployment template by those organizations that leverage the capabilities of Active Directory.

ShowMicrosoft Office Project 2003 Deployment template

The objective of this template is to identify and correlate the activities required for the installation and deployment of Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 in a corporate environment using Microsoft Office Project Server 2003. For enterprise deployments, this template is intended to be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Enterprise Project Management (EPM) Planning and Design tools available from Microsoft. The EPM Planning and Design tools contain information that is critical for optimal configuration of the Project Professional 2003 and Project Server 2003 environment.
