Automatically track projects in the Outlook Journal

Microsoft Outlook can keep a record of the work you do on a Microsoft Office Project 2003 file, such as opening, saving, and printing a file. With this information, Outlook can help you to find the project you worked on last Thursday or the one you printed yesterday. The information is stored only on your computer.

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Preferences tab, and then click Journal Options.
  4. In the Also record files from list, select the Microsoft Project check box.
  5. Click OK to close the Journal Options dialog box.

After you've set up Outlook to record Project files, work on a file is logged even when Outlook is inactive or closed.

Notes

  • The Outlook Journal records activity on file activities such as opening and saving a project file. It does not record activity on specific tasks within a project. If you are using Project Server, you can record activity on tasks within a specific project. Learn more about the Microsoft Office Project Add-in for Outlook.
  • Projects that are automatically recorded in the Outlook Journal sometimes take a few minutes to appear.
