Goal: Distribute project information online

Applies to
Microsoft Office Project 2003
Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
Microsoft Project 2000 and 2002

After you schedule your project, you may want to distribute the most current project information to team members or other stakeholders (stakeholders: Individuals and organizations that are actively involved in the project or whose interests may be affected by the project.). Project provides several ways to distribute project information online.

Tip   This article is part of a series of articles that describe a broad set of project management activities. We call these activities "goals" because they are organized around the project management life cycle: Build a plan, track and manage a project, and close a project. The project life cycle is outlined in The Project Map, where you can find a link to an article about each project management goal. Most of the articles include links to supporting information or procedures that you perform in Project or Project Server. These "goal" articles were designed to help you not only use Project but also better understand project management.

number 1 Set up project information for viewing with Project Server   By using Project Server (Project Server: A Project companion product that enables collaborative planning and status reporting among workgroup members, project managers, and other stakeholders by working with and exchanging project information on a Web site.), you can present the most current information about your project to others. You may need an administrator (administrator: Sets up and manages user accounts, assigns permissions, and helps users with network or server access issues. This person can also manage and customize various elements in Project Professional and in Project Server.) to do this if you don't have the necessary permissions on Project Server.

Number 2 Publish project information to the Web   If you or others who need your project information don't use Project Server but have access to the Web, you can export project information in HTML (HTML: An acronym for Hypertext Markup Language, which is a formatting convention for presenting text and graphics on the World Wide Web.) format by saving it as a Web page.

Number 3 Provide other online access to project information   If you communicate through a network server or e-mail system, such as Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Office Outlook®, you can easily post, send, or route project information to others from Project.
