Create customizable XML reports in Microsoft Project 2002

Applies to
Microsoft Project 2002

You can use the XML Reporting COM add-in to easily create customizable, Web-based reports from Microsoft Project 2002. For ease of use, this XML Reporting tool provides several example report formats.

Download and install the XML Reporting COM add-in from Downloads on Microsoft Office Online.

After installing the XML Reporting COM add-in, the XML Reporting Wizard toolbar is displayed in Microsoft Project 2002 by default. This toolbar is also accessible from the View menu.

To create a report, the XML Reporting Wizard uses an XML file containing Microsoft Project 2002 data, and applies an XSL template to transform the XML file into a report. You can create custom reports in any format by creating your own XSL templates. The sample XSL templates included with the XML Reporting Wizard generate HTML documents. Additional templates can be written to produce reports in any format (such as HTML and XML) from XML project documents exported from Microsoft Project 2002.

To create an XML report

  1. On the XML Reporting Wizard toolbar, click Generate reports from XML.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Specify the XML file you want to use:
    • To create a new file, click New File (generate XML from active project).
    • To use an existing file, click Existing, and then click Browse to find the file.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click Browse to locate the transform you want to use.
  6. On the last page, click Preview to review the XML report in Internet Explorer:
    • To save the report, click Save.
    • To close the wizard, click Finish.
