The Microsoft Team Manager to Microsoft Project 2000 conversion utility has been designed to enable you to import the bulk of data stored in your Microsoft Team Manager 97 file to a Microsoft Project 2000 file in order to get you started using Microsoft Project 2000. Because of the slightly different methods with which Microsoft Project and Team Manager schedule projects, you may find that there are some differences between your Team Manager plan and your new Microsoft Project plan.
Microsoft Team Manager uses best-fit resource scheduling, a bottom-up approach that rolls up the tasks assigned to each team member to form the plan. This approach emphasizes resources, scheduling tasks to fit the team members' availability and work schedules. In contrast, Microsoft Project 2000 focuses on tasks over resources, using the more common critical path method (CPM) for scheduling. CPM relies on defined tasks or jobs that must take place in a specific sequence, and whose completion defines the end of the project. Thus, while Team Manager can be used to manage resources' responsibilities in an ongoing flow model, plans defined in Microsoft Project 2000 must have specified start and end dates.
Requirements
This converter requires:
- Microsoft Team Manager 97
- Microsoft Project 2000, English edition
Note If you need to use the Team Manager converter with a different language version of Microsoft Project 2000, you can modify the macro code to do so. In the TeamManagerConverter code in the FieldCounter class module, you can change the Custom field constant strings to match the language of your copy of Microsoft Project 2000.
Using the converter
To run the Microsoft Team Manager converter, open the TeamManagerConverter.mpp file in Microsoft Project 2000. The macro runs automatically and starts you through the three-step wizard. On the first wizard page, select the team plan you want to convert. On the second wizard page, select whether you want Team Manager calendars converted (see more information below on calendars). Finally, on the third wizard page, click Finish to complete the conversion.
If you want to convert more than one team plan, when the TeamManagerConverter.mpp file has been opened, you can go to the Tools menu, click Macros, select TeamManagerConverter.mpp!TeamManager_Converter, and then click Run.
