Group by project assignments

Applies to
Microsoft Office Project 2003
Microsoft Project 2002

Project 2003 and Microsoft Project 2002 extend the grouping feature from grouping tasks and resources to grouping assignments. In the Resource Usage view, you can now group by assignments while maintaining the outline structure to see the context of an assignment in the task outline structure.

If you apply grouping to projects that share resources, however, the assignments may not be grouped as expected. Assignments to tasks from different projects that use the same outline number are incorrectly placed in the same group. To make sure they are grouped correctly, follow the steps below.

To group assignments of shared resources

  1. In the Resource Usage view, click Group By on the Project menu and then click More Groups.
  2. Click Assignments Keeping Outline Structure, and then click Copy.
  3. In the Name box, type Assignments by project keeping outline structure.
  4. In the Field Name column, click in the field immediately below the column heading, select Task Outline Number from the list, and then press INSERT.
  5. In the Field Name column of the new row, type Project.
  6. In the Field Type column of the new row, click in the field immediately below the column heading and then select Assignment.
  7. In the Field Type column of Task Outline Number, select Assignment.
  8. Click OK, and then click Apply.
