Welcome to Project Online! This service offers full portfolio and project management tools online, including Project Web App, and, if you’re a subscriber, Project Pro for Office 365.
Getting started is easy:
Step 1: Sign up for Project Online
Step 2: Get started with Project Web App
Step 3: Get started with Project Pro for Office 365
Step 4: Explore more features of Project Online
Step 1: Sign up for Project Online
First you need to set up your Office 365 account. You can do this on the Microsoft Office 365 website. When you set up your account, you can see which products you will have access to, including Project Online, listed on the top right portion of the signup page.
After your Office 365 account is set up, a Project Web App site is automatically created for you. Click Projects in the blue bar at the top of the site to begin using Project Web App.

Note If you already have a site collection and you want to add a Project Web App site to that collection, you can enable Project Web App on your existing SharePoint Online site.
Although there are several of different starting points for setting up Project Web App, a great place to begin is by adding users and creating groups. You can also easily share the Project Web App site with others, if you simply want to provide a quick view of specific project data.

Step 2: Get started with Project Web App
|
With Project Web App configured, and users and groups set up, you’re ready to start managing projects. A great place to begin is to import projects that you may have already been managing elsewhere, either as .MPP files or SharePoint lists. You could also choose to create a new project by using Project Web App or Project Pro for Office 365. For more information on how to use Project Pro for Office 365, see Start using Project Pro for Office 365, later in this article. |
Another starting point might be setting up the resources you will be using to get your projects done. These might be people … maybe the same people you set up as users. Your resources might also include tools, like vehicles or conference rooms, or costs, like lodging or airfare.
| As you add your projects and resources to Project Web App and begin using it, you may find that you’d like to configure additional settings and metadata to better meet your needs. You can add custom fields and lookup tables, you can create custom reports and dashboards, and you can edit the links that are available on the Quick Launch (the left navigation panel). |

After some initial work to get Project Web App configured with the right data and the right customizations, you will hit your project management stride, and may want to use it for things like timesheets and task status (“How much time am I spending and how are my projects progressing?”), and portfolio analysis (“Am I choosing the right projects to work on?”). |
And what’s great is that because this is Project Online, you can do these things on your desktop PC at work, on your laptop on the road, on your tablet device at home, or even on your smartphone.

Step 3: Get started with Project Pro for Office 365
The first step to using Project Pro for Office 365 is to download it to the PC where you want to work on your project. To do this, log on to Office 365, and then click Download software in the Admin Shortcuts section.
On the Project page, you can choose the language that you want to use, and then click Install to quickly stream the latest version of Project Pro for Office 365 to your PC.
After you have your project planned, or after you have made changes to your project in Project Pro for Office 365, you may want to save and publish a project to Project Web App or sync a project with a SharePoint site.
