Task Calendar (task field)

Data Type     Enumerated (enumerated field: A type of field whose content is selected from a list of predefined choices. For example, in the Accrue At field you can select the way resource costs are accrued from a list that includes Start, Prorated, and End.)

Entry Type     Entered (entered field: A field in which you may type or edit information. This is in contrast with a calculated field, in which Project calculates and enters information.)

Description     The Task Calendar field lists all calendars (calendar: The scheduling mechanism that determines working time for resources and tasks. Project uses four types of calendars: the base calendar, project calendar, resource calendar, and task calendar.) available to be applied to a task. This includes the base calendars (base calendar: A calendar that can be used as a project and task calendar that specifies default working and nonworking time for a set of resources. Differs from a resource calendar, which specifies working and nonworking time for an individual resource.) (Standard, 24 Hours, Night Shift) that come with Project, as well as any new base calendars you have created. When Project schedules the task, the working times in the applied task calendar supersede those in the project calendar (project calendar: The base calendar used by a project.). If resources are assigned, the task is scheduled based on the intersection of the working times of the task and resource calendar. If you turn on the Ignore Resource Calendar field, only the task calendar is used for scheduling the task.

Best Uses     Add the Task Calendar field to a task sheet when you want to enter, change, or view the task calendar (task calendar: The base calendar that you can apply to individual tasks to control their scheduling, usually independent of the project calendar or any assigned resources' calendars. By default, all tasks use the project calendar.) applied to tasks. Also use this field for sorting, filtering, or grouping tasks by the type of calendar applied.

Example     You have created three different task calendars to be used for several specific tasks. You add the Task Calendar field to the Entry table of the Gantt Chart view. Choose the appropriate task calendar you want to apply to the specific tasks.

Remarks     You can also apply a task calendar to a task with the Task Information dialog box. By default, the task calendar is set to None, which indicates that the project calendar and resources' calendars are used to schedule the task.

You can also have Project disregard the resource calendars of any assigned resources in favor of the applied task calendar in the Task Information dialog box.
