Status Indicator (task field)

Data Type    Indicator (indicators field: A field containing a graphical indicator that provides information about the state of an assignment, resource, or task. For example, a check mark indicator shows that a task is completed.)

Entry Type    Calculated (calculated field: A field in which the value is determined by Project based on information in other fields. Project may recalculate the value automatically or when you specify, depending on your choice of calculation settings.)

Description    The Status Indicator field displays an icon which represents the current status of a task. There are indicators to specify that a task is Complete, On Schedule, Late, or a Future Task.

How Calculated    Project bases the content of the Status Indicator field on the results in the Status field.

If the task is complete, then the Status Indicator contains a check mark.

If the task will occur in the future, the Status Indicator field is blank.

If the task is on schedule, the Status Indicator contains a clock with a check mark.

If the task is late, the Status Indicator contains a clock with an exclamation point.

Best Uses    Add the Status Indicator field to a task view when you want to get a quick visual on task status. Use the Status Indicator field in conjunction with the Status field if you want to group, filter, or sort by task status.

Example    There are 100 tasks in your project, and you want to get a quick overview of task status to see where you should focus your tracking efforts. You add the Status Indicator field to the Gantt Chart view. By examining the indicators, you see that 25 tasks are completed, 50 tasks are still in the future, 20 tasks are currently on time, and 5 tasks are late. You follow up on the late tasks so you can get more information from the assigned resources.
