Hyperlink fields

The Hyperlink field shows the title or explanatory text for a hyperlink (hyperlink: A portion of text, distinguished by a color, that contains a link to another file or a location within a file. When you click the hyperlink, a Web browser will search for and display the document that is associated with the hyperlink.) associated with a task, resource, or assignment. This text appears when you rest the pointer on the hyperlink indicator in the Indicators field.

There are several categories of Hyperlink fields.

Data Type    Text (text field: A type of field whose content is text. Examples include the Task Name and Email Address fields. This field can contain up to 255 characters.)

ShowHyperlink (task field)

Entry Type    Entered (entered field: A field in which you may type or edit information. This is in contrast with a calculated field, in which Project calculates and enters information.)

Best Uses    Add the Hyperlink field to a task sheet when you want to display, filter, or edit the display text for Web sites associated with tasks.

Example    Many tasks in your project are assigned to outside consulting companies and service bureaus that have Web sites. You add the Hyperlink field to the Task Sheet view to see the hyperlink name (for example, "Consultant Web site" or "Printshop home page") for these outside companies.

Remarks    You can add or edit hyperlink text in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

Best Uses    Add the Hyperlink field to a resource view when you want to display, filter, or edit the display text for Web sites associated with resources in your project.

Example    Several resources working on your project are consulting companies and service bureaus that have Web sites. You add the Hyperlink field to the Resource Sheet view to see the hyperlink name (for example, "Consultant Web site" or "Printshop home page") for these outside companies.

Remarks    You can also add or edit hyperlink text in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

Best Uses    Add the Hyperlink field to the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view when you want to display, filter, or edit the display text for Web sites associated with assignments.

Example    Several assigned resources are consulting companies and service bureaus that have Web sites. You add the Hyperlink field to the Task Usage view to see the hyperlink name, for example, "Consultant Web site" or "Printshop home page" for these outside companies.
