Baseline Deliverable Finish (task field)

Data Type    Date (date field: A type of field whose content is a date. Examples include the Baseline Start and Early Finish fields.)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered (calculated or entered field: A field in which the value is determined by Project based on information in other fields. Information that you enter in the field yourself overrides calculated values.)

Description    The Baseline Deliverable Finish field contains the originally planned deliverable finish date (finish date: The date that a task is scheduled to be completed. This date is based on the task's start date, duration, calendars, predecessor dates, task dependencies, and constraints.) saved with the project baseline (baseline plan: The original project plans [up to 11 per project] used to track progress on a project. The baseline plan is a snapshot of your schedule at the time that you save the baseline and includes information about tasks, resources, and assignments.). The Deliverable Finish field contains the finish date when the deliverable (deliverable: A tangible and measurable result, outcome, or item that must be produced to complete a project or part of a project. Typically, the project team and project stakeholders agree on project deliverables before the project begins.) task associated with the current task is scheduled to be completed. This can be the deliverable task itself or the task that has a dependency on the deliverable task.

How Calculated    The Baseline Deliverable Finish field contains NA until you set a baseline for the project. When you save a baseline, the value in the Deliverable Finish field is copied into the Baseline Deliverable Finish field.

Best Uses    Add the Baseline Deliverable Finish field to a task sheet when you need to see when deliverable tasks were originally scheduled to be completed. You might also add the scheduled Deliverable Finish field so you can see variances between the deliverable finish dates in the original plan and the current schedule.

Example    Work started on your project two months ago, when you first saved the project baseline. Now you want to compare the Baseline Deliverable Finish field with the current Deliverable Finish field. You add both fields to the Task Sheet to analyze the differences in deliverable finish dates and determine whether you need to make any adjustments to your schedule.

Remarks    You can save a baseline plan in the Set Baseline dialog box.

After you save a baseline, you can change the date in the Baseline Deliverable Finish field. However, edited baseline values do not cause any recalculation of baseline fields. The purpose of saving a baseline is to capture a "snapshot" of the project plan at a moment in time. Editing baseline values can change the integrity of your information and result in misleading conclusions.
