Office Ready and Prepaid
What is Office Ready and how is it different from Prepaid?
Office Ready is a Microsoft program that ensures that Microsoft Office is pre-loaded on new PCs. Office Ready gives you the option of purchasing a full Microsoft Office license or activating a free 60-day trial. For those PC owners who prefer the flexibility and affordability of a prepaid subscription, they now also can choose to buy a 2007 Microsoft Office Prepaid Starter Kit from their retailer. Office Prepaid offers a new way to use Microsoft Office several months past the date of their PC purchase with the flexibility to renew the subscription when they choose.
How do I get Office Ready?
Participating computer manufacturers pre-install Office Ready on new PCs. If you are interested in having Office Ready on your new PC, ask your computer retailer if Office Ready has been pre-installed. Office Ready is not available for sale or download for existing PCs.
Can I use the Office Ready trial and then use Office Prepaid?
The Office Ready 60-day trial can be activated and then an Office Prepaid Starter Kit can be used at any time to start your subscription.

What is activation and how do I get started?

In the Start menu, click All Programs, and then click Microsoft Office. Select any Microsoft Office application (for example, Microsoft Office Word 2007).
When the Microsoft Office software is launched for the first time, the 2007 Microsoft Office system Setup Wizard will be launched and you will be required to activate the subscription online — an Internet connection must be available to activate the software. You will be prompted to enter the 25-character subscription product key which can be located on the inside of your Prepaid Starter Kit. For more information, visit the Start your Prepaid subscription page.

Can I use the subscription software without activating it?
No. You must activate the subscription software before you can use it.
Can I activate a product that has already been activated?

What happens if I cancel the activation process before the subscription has been activated?
If you cancel the activation process at any time, or if activation is interrupted for any other reason (for example, if the Internet connection is lost), you will still have the opportunity to go through the activation process until you have successfully activated the subscription software.

Prepaid help and support
My old computer had Microsoft Office, why is there only a Prepaid subscription version on my new computer?
Microsoft Office has never been included for free with Microsoft Windows. Many PC manufacturers install a subscription version of Microsoft Office on new computers as a service to their customers. Windows is an operating system and typically comes with the price of a new PC. However, Microsoft Office is a package of productivity applications that is sold separately from the operating system for an additional fee.
How can I find out more information about the subscription program?
Learn more about how to activate and renew the subscription. You can also learn more by visiting a participating computer retailer in selected markets.
Is there support available for the subscription?
There is 90-day customer support starting from the first call. You can also use these resources to get support online and from other Microsoft Office users.
If I have trouble activating the software, what may be the cause?
There are several potential reasons why activation may not be successful.
- Confirm that you have access to the Internet before attempting to activate the 2007 Office system Prepaid subscription software.
- Ensure that you are using the correct product key to activate the subscription software. The correct product key is 25 digits long and is located on the inside of your Prepaid Starter/Renewal card. Be sure that you are using the Microsoft Office product key and not the Microsoft Windows product key.
- When using the product for the first time, and after seeing a successful activation, you may need to exit the Microsoft Office application, and re-launch it in order to begin using the software.
- Make sure that you are entering the subscription product key in the proper box. During the activation process, you should enter the product key in the Set Up screen. Some users incorrectly try to enter the subscription product key in the box after they click the Renew button.
You should only use the Convert button during the activation process if you are ready to renew the subscription. Renewing allows you to use your 2007 Microsoft Office suite for an additional period of time.
How can I tell if I have successfully renewed and activated the subscription?
To determine if you have successfully renewed your subscription, follow these steps:
- Open any Microsoft Office application (for example, Microsoft Office Word 2007).
- Open the Help menu, and then select Activate Product.
- If a dialog box appears stating "This product has already been activated" then you have renewed your subscription successfully. If you have not renewed your subscription successfully, a different dialog box will open with instructions on how to convert your subscription.

Can I run multiple versions of Microsoft Office on my computer?
Although not recommended, you can install and use more than one version of Microsoft Office on a single computer. For example, you can install and use both the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Microsoft Office 2003 on the same computer. The exception to this is Microsoft Outlook. Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 cannot coexist with any earlier version of Microsoft Outlook. If you choose to install Office Outlook 2007, the Setup program will not allow you to keep any earlier version. Microsoft Outlook 2002, Microsoft Outlook 2000, or Microsoft Outlook 98 will be removed even if you select the Keep these programs check box in the Removing Previous Versions dialog box.
How do I uninstall the subscription from my computer if I decide not to renew the software or I choose to purchase another 2007 Microsoft Office suite?
It is not necessary to uninstall the subscription if you choose not to renew the software. However, if you choose to purchase another 2007 Microsoft Office suite (for example, Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007) then it is recommended to uninstall the subscription software prior to loading the software. To uninstall the subscription, follow these steps:- To open Add or Remove Programs, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Click Change or Remove Programs.
- Scroll down until you find Microsoft Office 2007. Please note that there may be nothing in the Change or Remove Programs dialog box that indicates that the program is a subscription.
- Click Microsoft Office 2007 and then click Remove, the program will then run through the uninstall process.
