Before you can activate your free 60-day trial, you need to obtain a 25-character trial activation key.

Activate the trial from your Windows start button

1. Click the Windows Start button to open the directory.
2. Click the All Programs button to open the list of programs.
3. Click the Microsoft Office folder to open the list of programs.
4. Click a Microsoft Office program to launch the Activation Wizard.
5. In the wizard, enter your trial activation key.

    Note   If a box appears on this screen to type your 8-character referral key, please leave the box empty. The referral key is not required to activate the trial.

    Note    If the Microsoft Office — 60-day trial desktop icon is on your computer, you may have the Activation Assistant in the Microsoft Office folder to request a trial activation key online. If you can’t locate the Activation Assistant, request a trial activation key online.

6. Click I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Continue.
7. Click I want to activate the software over the Internet, and then click Next to activate the 2007 Microsoft Office Trial.

Activate the trial from your desktop

 Note   This option may not be available to all users. If you cannot locate the Microsoft Office — 60-day trial desktop icon, activate the trial from your Windows start button.

1. Click the Microsoft Office — 60-day trial desktop icon to open the Activation Assistant.

    Note   If you can't find the Microsoft Office — 60-day trial desktop icon on your desktop, you can open the Activation Assistant by clicking Start clicking Programs, pointing to Microsoft Office, and then clicking Microsoft Office — 60-day trial desktop icon. If you can’t locate the Activation Assistant, request a trial activation key online.

2. In the Activation Assistant, click the Try Microsoft Office tab.
3. Click Step 1 to request your trial activation key.

    Note   After your activation key appears, it is recommended that you request a backup e-mail containing your key and outlining additional Microsoft Office Online benefits.

4. Click Step 2 to open the Activation Wizard.
5. In the wizard, enter your trial activation key.

 Note   If a box appears on this screen to type your 8-character referral key, please leave the box empty. The referral key is not required to activate the trial.

6. Click I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Continue.
7. Click I want to activate the software over the Internet, and then click Next to activate the 2007 Microsoft Office Trial.

Receive updates

To receive updates and other promotional information on Microsoft products, you can register after activating the 2007 Microsoft Office Trial. Registration is optional and is not tied to activation or required to use the trial.

Find out about trial expiration

After the trial period expires, the software goes into reduced functionality mode. Some of the limitations of reduced functionality mode include the following:

• You cannot create any new files.
• You can view existing files, but you cannot modify them.
• You can print files, but you cannot save them.

 Note   At anytime during the trial or after your trial has expired, you can convert the trial into a full-product version.
