Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, the next version of Office Live Communications Server 2005, is the first Microsoft product to combine enterprise Instant Messaging (IM), Presence, Web conferencing, and software powered VoIP. For organizations that require a fully on-premise Web conferencing solution, Office Communications Server 2007 provides Web conferencing to users via an on-premise solution residing inside the corporate firewall.

Office Communications Server 2007 is licensed in the Server/Client Access License (CAL) model. Under this model, an Office Communications Server 2007 license is required for each operating system environment running Office Communications Server 2007. A CAL is required for each user or device accessing Office Communications Server 2007. You can acquire Office Communications Server 2007 as standalone server and Client Access license (CAL) or you can purchase the CALs as part of the Microsoft Enterprise CAL (ECAL) Suite. Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Standard External Connector The External Connector licenses (EC) are optional additional server license for external users that enable access to your servers running Office Communications Server 2007. With these licenses, you do not need to buy individual Office Communications Server CALs for external users. Grants access to the Office Communications Server for Office Communications Server Standard CAL functionality by an unlimited number of external users that can include, but is not limited to, business partners, suppliers, customers, retirees, and alumni. It is licensed per server. You can acquire these licenses through Open Licensing, Select Licensing, and Enterprise Agreements.
