Features affected by working with a PowerPoint presentation in an earlier version
 

The following features are affected when you open a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 presentation in PowerPoint 2002, PowerPoint 2000 or PowerPoint 97, or save a Office PowerPoint 2003 presentation to the PowerPoint 97-2003 & 95 Presentation or PowerPoint 95 format:

PowerPoint 2003 feature In PowerPoint 2002
Password protection Presentations with passwords do not open.
Multiple masters (multiple masters: When you apply more than one design template to your presentation, you will have multiple masters, one for each template that you are using.) Editing and saving may result in loss of multiple masters.
Note: Fully compatible in PowerPoint 2000 SR1.
Animation effects Animations either converted to PowerPoint 2002 effect or object appears on page without animation.
Picture rotation Windows metafiles do not appear rotated.
Bitmaps change to nearest 90-degree rotation.
Transparency on a solid fill Appears less smooth.
Transparency on a fill effect Fill appears opaque.
Transparency on a line Line appears opaque.
Contrast and brightness adjustments on picture fills The picture will appear without adjustments.
Fill rotates with shape Fills do not appear rotated.
Anti-aliasing (anti-aliasing: The smoothing of jagged edges in graphical elements and text. Anti-aliasing softens the roughness of jagged lines or curves by shading neighboring pixels.) Not supported; text and graphics appear less smooth.

Charts Microsoft Graph charts can be edited in earlier versions of Microsoft Graph if the Convert charts when saving as previous version check box is selected on the Save tab in the Options dialog box (Tools menu). Microsoft Excel charts can't be edited.

Unicode characters (2 bytes per character) Not supported.
