How do I use a PDF file in a presentation?

You can link to a Portable Document Format (PDF) file from within a presentation using hyperlinks (hyperlink: Colored and underlined text or a graphic that you click to go to a file, a location in a file, a Web page on the World Wide Web, or a Web page on an intranet. Hyperlinks can also go to newsgroups and to Gopher, Telnet, and FTP sites.).

Note  You cannot insert a PDF file into PowerPoint as an embedded object (embedded object: Information (object) contained in a source file and inserted into a destination file. Once embedded, the object becomes part of the destination file. Changes you make to the embedded object are reflected in the destination file.).

  1. Select the text or object you want to use to link to the PDF file.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
  3. Under Link to, click Existing File or Web Page.
  4. Select the PDF file you want to link to, and then click OK.

Now run the presentation to see if the hyperlink is working correctly.

  1. Click Slide Show at the lower left of the PowerPoint window or Press F5.
  2. Click the hyperlink to the PDF file.

Note  To make sure that your hyperlinks to files work, keep all the files you link to from within a presentation in the same folder as your presentation.
