In versions of PowerPoint earlier than Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, to change the look of your presentation — such as the types and sizes of bullets, background design and fill colors, and placeholder sizes and positions — you applied a design template (design template: A file that contains the styles in a presentation, including the type and size of bullets and fonts; placeholder sizes and positions; background design and fill color schemes; and a slide master and optional title master.). In Office PowerPoint 2007, you apply a theme (theme: A combination of theme colors, theme fonts, and theme effects. A theme may be applied to a file as a single selection.) to achieve the same result. For more information about how to apply a theme to change the look of your presentation, see Apply a theme to your presentation.
