More and more, your audiences - whether colleagues, students, or friends - want to view your presentations over the Internet or an intranet. PowerPoint® 2000 lets you publish a presentation in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) format with one simple command.
PowerPoint 2000 automatically formats the Web presentation with options that make sense for Web viewing. For example, the titles in the outline pane become hyperlinks that allow you to move from slide to slide, and buttons for moving to the next and previous slides are added to the bottom of the Web page. You can turn these options on or off before you publish to get the look you want.

Any graphics or drawing objects in your presentation - including files in bitmap format or shapes you've drawn using the tools on the Drawing toolbar - are automatically stored in GIF, JPEG, PNG, or Vector Markup Language (VML) format. Even after you save your presentation as a Web page, all of the data in your presentation, including graphics and other objects, can be edited in PowerPoint.
Tip To make sure your presentation looks the way you want in your Web browser, preview the presentation as a Web page before you publish it. To do this, click Web Page Preview on the File menu.
Here are some of the options that you can customize when you save a presentation as a Web page:
- Publish the complete presentation, only certain slides, or a custom show.
- Choose whether or not to display speaker notes with slides.
- Choose browser level support (for example, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later).
- Turn on or off the outline and notes panes and slide navigation controls.
- Choose the color of text in the outline and notes panes, and the background color for all panes.
- Turn off animations and transition effects in the slide pane (these items are always available when you view the slide show in Full Screen mode).
- Set the size and output format for graphics (for example, use VML for presentations that will be viewed in Internet Explorer 5 or later).
- Set the resolution of the target display monitor (for example, 800 x 600 pixels).
- Turn on or off long file names for Web pages.
- Specify the location for supporting files (bullets and graphics) for the Web page—either in a separate folder, or in the same folder as the Web page.
