Using PowerPoint 2010 and 2007 with PDF files

The conditions in which Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010 and 2007 support the Portable Document Format (PDF) (PDF: A Postscript-based electronic file format that preserves document formatting and enables file sharing.) depends on the result you're after. Can I import PDF content into a PowerPoint presentation?

Yes, it is possible for you to import PDF content from another application into a PowerPoint presentation. Adobe Reader now enables you to select, copy, and paste text and images to put them into your presentation.

You can also insert a file in .pdf format into your Office 2010 file as an object. You will be able to re-size it, but you will be unable to edit it after insertion. For more information, see Add a PDF to your Office file.

Can I use PowerPoint to create a PDF file?

PowerPoint 2010 and 2007 enable you to save your presentation as a PDF file. For instructions about how to do so, see Save as PDF if you’re using PowerPoint 2010, or see Save as PDF if you’re using PowerPoint 2007.

Can I link to a PDF file from within a presentation?

Yes! To link to a PDF file from within a PowerPoint presentation, do the following:

  1. Select the text or object that you want to use to link to the PDF file.
  2. On the Insert tab, in the Links group, click Hyperlink.
  3. Under Link to, click Existing File or Web Page.
  4. Select the PDF file that you want to link to, and then click OK.
  5. Verify the link.

To run the presentation to ensure that the hyperlink is working correctly, do the following:

  1. On the Slide Show tab, in the Start Slide Show group, click From Beginning or press F5.
  2. Click the hyperlink that you created to the PDF file.

 Note   To make sure that your hyperlinks work, keep all the files you link to from within a presentation in the same folder as your presentation.
