Resize a shape or text box to fit its text

  1. Select the AutoShape (AutoShapes: A group of ready-made shapes that includes basic shapes, such as rectangles and circles, plus a variety of lines and connectors, block arrows, flowchart symbols, stars and banners, and callouts.) or text box (text box: A movable, resizable container for text or graphics. Use text boxes to position several blocks of text on a page or to give text a different orientation from other text in the document.) you want to resize.
  2. Double-click the selection rectangle (selection rectangle: A rectangle with sizing handles that surrounds a selected object or objects.) of the AutoShape or text box, and then click the Text Box tab in the Format dialog box.
  3. Select the Resize AutoShape to fit text check box.
