Delete data from a chart

You can delete data from a chart, including the corresponding data on the worksheet. Or, you can delete the data series (data series: Related data points that are plotted in a chart and originate from datasheet rows or columns. Each data series in a chart has a unique color or pattern. You can plot one or more data series in a chart. Pie charts have only one data series.) without losing any data on the worksheet or datasheet (datasheet: A table included with a chart that provides sample information showing where to type your own row and column labels and data.).

  1. In Microsoft PowerPoint, double-click the chart you want to change.
  2. Switch to the datasheet. If the datasheet is not visible, click View Datasheet Button image to display it.
  3. Do one of the following:

ShowDelete data from a chart and worksheet

  1. Select the information you want to delete.
  2. Press DELETE.
  3. To return to the slide, click outside the chart.

ShowDelete a data series from the chart without deleting the corresponding data from the worksheet or datasheet

  1. Double-click the row or column header for the data series that you don't want to show in the chart.
  2. To return to the slide, click outside the chart.

 Note   If you want to put the data series back in the chart, double-click the row or column header again.
