Change or remove transitions between slides

You can change slide transitions, set different properties or timings for transitions, and remove slide transitions from the slides in your presentation.

Change the transition to a slide

  1. In the pane that contains the Slides and Outline tabs, select the Slides tab.

  1. On the Slides tab in Normal view, click the thumbnail of the slide that has the transition that you want to change.
  2. On the Transitions tab in the Ribbon, in the Transition To This Slide group, click a different slide transition effect for that slide.

Choose a transition from the gallery in the Transition to This Slide group.

 Tip   To see more transition effects in the gallery, click the More button Button image.

 Note   To change the slide transitions for all the slides in your presentation:     Repeat steps 2 through 3 above, and then on the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, click Apply To All.

Set the properties for a transition

Many, but not all, of the transitions in PowerPoint 2010 have customizable properties that you can set.

  1. On the Slides tab in Normal view, click the thumbnail of the slide with the transition that you want to modify.
  2. On the Transitions tab, in the Transition to This Slide group, click Effect Options and select the option that you want.

Set the timing for a transition

To set the duration of the transition to the current slide, do the following:

  1. On the Slides tab in Normal view, click the thumbnail of the slide with the transition that you want to set the timing for.
  2. On the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, in the Duration box, type or select the speed that you want.

Type the number of seconds you want the transition to last into the Duration text box in the Timing group.

To specify how long before the current slide advances to the next, use one of the following procedures:

  • To advance the slide when you click the mouse: On the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, select the On Mouse Click check box.
  • To advance the slide at a specified time: On the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, in the After box, enter the number of seconds that you want.

Remove a transition

  1. In the pane that contains the Slides and Outline tabs, select the Slides tab.
  2. On the Slides tab in Normal view, click the thumbnail of the slide that you want to remove the transition from.
  3. On the Transitions tab, in the Transition to This Slide group, click None.

 Note   To remove the slide transitions from all the slides in your presentation:      Repeat steps 2 through 3 above, and then on the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, click Apply To All.
