If you want your presentation to contain more than one theme (layouts (layout: The arrangement of elements, such as title and subtitle text, lists, pictures, tables, charts, AutoShapes, and movies, on a slide.) that contain backgrounds, colors, fonts, and effects), your presentation must contain multiple slide masters (slide master: The main slide that stores information about the theme and layouts of a presentation, including the background, color, fonts, effects, placeholder sizes, and positions.).
Each theme is associated with a single set of layouts, and each set of layouts is associated with a single slide master. So, for example, two slide masters can each have a different theme with a unique set of layouts (two designs) that you can apply to one presentation.
