How to use Office Outlook 2007 to view a dashboard

PerformancePoint Dashboard Viewer for SharePoint Services is a convenient way to view dashboards from a Web site. For example, you can track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), view the reports affiliated with those KPIs, or view other types of dashboard elements such as scorecards.

This article describes how to configure Outlook 2007 to display those dashboards in an Outlook folder instead of a Web browser.

Note   When you use Outlook 2007 to view dashboards, the scorecard toolbar and filter options remain fully functional, as does the Visio Viewer 2007 toolbar that is displayed with a strategy map.

How to display a dashboard in Outlook

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder to open the Create New Folder dialog box.
  3. In the Name box, type a name for the folder.
  4. In the Folder Contains box, accept the default value, which is Mail and Post Items.
  5. Use the Select where to place the folder list to specify where you want to put the folder, and then click OK to close the Create New Folder dialog box.
  6. Right-click the new folder, and then click Properties.
  7. Click the Home Page tab, and then type (or copy and paste) the URL of the dashboard into the Address box.
  8. Select Show home page by default for this folder.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click the folder to view your dashboard.
