Send a message with an S/MIME receipt request
 

An S/MIME (S/MIME: Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) is a specification for secure e-mail messages that uses the X.509 format for digital certificates and uses various encryption algorithms such as 3DES.) receipt is an e-mail security feature used to request confirmation that a message was received unaltered. It also includes information about who opened the message and when it was opened. This verification information is returned as a message in your Inbox. You can configure Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to send your messages with an S/MIME receipt request.

Send a single message with an S/MIME receipt request

  1. In the message, on the Message tab, in the Options group, click the Message Options Dialog Box Launcher Icon image.
  2. Click Security Settings.
  3. Select the Add digital signature to this message check box.
  4. Select the Request S/MIME receipt for this message check box.
  5. Click OK two times.
  6. Send your message.

Send all messages with an S/MIME receipt request

  1. On the Tools menu, click Trust Center, and then click E-mail Security.
  2. Under Encrypted e-mail, select the Add digital signature to outgoing messages check box.
  3. Select the Request S/MIME receipt for all S/MIME signed messages check box.

  4. Click OK two times.
  5. Send your message.
