About product and service items in Business Contact Manager

In Business Contact Manager for Outlook, you can keep track of the product and service items (product and service items: Goods and services that you purchase or sell, or offer for purchase or sale.) you use in your business. These product and service items are goods and services that you purchase or sell, or offer to others to purchase or sell.

To manage this list, on the Business Contact Manager menu, click Product and Service Items List. You can add or edit products or services individually, or you can import a list of product and service items from another program.

Tip   You can only export the Product and Service Items List in Business Contact Manager for Outlook along with Account or Business Contact records in the .bcm file format by using the Business Data Import and Export wizard. The Product and Service Items List cannot be exported into the .csv file format. For more information about how export business data, see Import and export business data in Business Contact Manager 2007.

By adding product and service items from your list to an Opportunity record (Opportunity record: The location for storing Opportunity information, including information that is entered on the Opportunity form, linked records, and communication history items.), you can assess the potential value to your business, which can help you track offers, bids, and proposals.

If you have a list of items in your accounting system (accounting system: The accounting program.), and Business Contact Manager for Outlook is integrated with your accounting system, you can import this list into your Business Contact Manager database (Business Contact Manager database: The database that stores information about Accounts, Business Contacts, Opportunities, Business Projects, and other items.). When you are integrated with your accounting system, click Refresh in the Product and Service Items List in Business Contact Manager for Outlook, to synchronize the list with the list in your accounting system.

Note   Product and service items from the Items list in your accounting system are integrated into the Product and Service Items List in Business Contact Manager for Outlook. Product and service items from Business Contact Manager for Outlook are not integrated into the Items list in your accounting system.

Note that this feature is available only if you have integrated Business Contact Manager for Outlook with your accounting system. For more information about how to integrate Business Contact Manager for Outlook with your accounting system, see Help in your accounting system.

Note   The currency on which you base the price of your product and service items is determined by the regional settings that you selected. You cannot use currency from multiple regions in Business Contact Manager for Outlook.
