I can't access my MSN account
 

MSN Internet Access version 5.3 or earlier accounts are set up with POP3 (POP3: A common protocol that is used to retrieve e-mail messages from an Internet e-mail server.) e-mail accounts. New MSN accounts use HTTP e-mail accounts. However, the older accounts can be migrated to newer HTTP accounts. For assistance in determining which type of e-mail account you use, contact MSN Support.

ShowMSN HTTP accounts

  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
  2. Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.

    If you have already added your MSN account to Microsoft Outlook, click View or change existing e-mail accounts, click Next, select the MSN account, and then click Change. Proceed to step 4.

  3. Click HTTP, and then click Next.
  4. In the Your Name box, type your name as you want others to see it.
  5. In the E-mail Address box, type your complete e-mail address including @msn.com.

    The HTTP Mail Service Provider box automatically changes to MSN when you enter an e-mail address ending in msn.com.

  6. In the User Name box, type your account name. Do not include @msn.com.
  7. In the Password box, type your MSN account password. You can choose to have Outlook remember your password by selecting the Remember password check box.

    Use strong passwords that combine upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Weak passwords don't mix these elements. Strong password: Y6dh!et5. Weak password: House27. Use a strong password that you can remember so that you don't have to write it down.

    Important  You should not do this if anyone else has access to your Microsoft Windows account.

  8. Leave the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box clear.
  9. Click Next, and then click Finish.

ShowMSN POP3 accounts

  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
  2. Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.

    If you have already added your MSN account to Microsoft Outlook, click View or change existing e-mail accounts, click Next, select the MSN account, and then click Change. Proceed to step 4.

  3. Click POP3, and then click Next.
  4. In the Your Name box, type your name as you want others to see it.
  5. In the E-mail Address box, type your complete e-mail address including @msn.com.
  6. In the Incoming mail server (POP3) box, type pop3.email.msn.com.
  7. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type smtp.email.msn.com.
  8. In the User Name box, type your account name. Do not include @msn.com.
  9. In the Password box, type your MSN account password. You can choose to have Outlook remember your password by selecting the Remember password check box.

    Important  You should not do this if anyone else has access to your Microsoft Windows account.

  10. Select the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box.
  11. Click More Settings.
  12. Click the Outgoing Server tab, and then select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication check box.
  13. Click Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  14. Click OK.

    Click Test Account Settings to verify that your account is working. If there is missing or incorrect information, such as your password, you will be prompted to supply or correct it. Be sure that your computer is connected to the Internet.

  15. Click Next, and then click Finish.
