Change the way items are displayed
 

You can create formatting rules that highlight items in a view based on certain conditions. For example, by default, new e-mail messages appear in bold in your Inbox, or when a task is complete it is formatted with a red strikethrough line.

  1. On the View menu, point to Arrange By, point to Current View, and then click Customize Current View.
  2. Click Automatic Formatting.
  3. Do one of the following:

    ShowAdd a rule

    1. Click Add.
    2. In the Name box, type a name for the formatting rule.
    3. Click Condition, select the options you want, and then click OK.
    4. Do one of the following:

      ShowViews based on Calendar Day/Week/Month view

      • To automatically color items, in the Label list, select a color.

      ShowViews based on the table view

      • To define how items should be be displayed, click Font.

    ShowDelete a rule

    1. In the Rules for this view list, select the rule you want to delete.
    2. Click Delete.

      Note  You cannot delete a built-in rule.

    ShowChange a rule

    1. In the Rules for this view list, select the rule you want to change.
    2. Select the new options you want.

ShowTip

You can specify that messages from a specific sender display in your Inbox in a certain color. On the Tools menu, click Organize, and then click Using Colors. In Color messages, select the options you want, and then click Apply Color.
