This feature requires you to be using a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account.

1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail accounts, select View or change existing e-mail accounts, click Next, select the Exchange e-mail account, and then click Change.
2. Click More Settings, then click the Advanced tab.

   The status is displayed under Mailbox Mode.

• The Mailbox Mode determines if Microsoft Outlook is running in Unicode (Unicode: A character encoding standard developed by the Unicode Consortium. By using more than one byte to represent each character, Unicode enables almost all of the written languages in the world to be represented by using a single character set.) or non-Unicode mode on the Exchange server. If Outlook is not running in Unicode mode, you might not be able to create, send, view, and receive items in multiple languages.
• The Mailbox Mode is read-only. You cannot manually change the mailbox mode in Outlook. The mailbox mode is automatically determined by Outlook when the computer is started depending on several conditions such as the Exchange server version, the format of the Personal Folders file (.pst) (Personal Folders file (.pst): Data file that stores your messages and other items on your computer. You can assign a .pst file to be the default delivery location for e-mail messages. You can use a .pst to organize and back up items for safekeeping.), and settings configured by your Exchange server administrator.
