With Research services you can modify your search scope to include multiple resources or just the one you want. Results from multiple resources are returned to you in an organized structure so you can scan the information quickly and stay productive. You can also navigate between Research task panes in different Microsoft Office 2003 programs without losing your settings or search results in any program.
Use these tips to help you search in the Research task pane:
- To search the Web, including your research sites and other services such as MSN Money Stock Quotes and eLibrary, change the default search scope in the Search for list. By default, the search scope is set to All Reference Books and search is confined to those books.
- To view the results that are returned for an existing query, click the Back and Forward buttons in the Research task pane until you see the query you want, or click the down arrow on these buttons, and then click the query you want from the list. To refresh the search results for the query, click Start Searching
. - To run your search query again using a different search scope, select the option you want in the Search for list. An updated result set will appear in the Research task pane.
- For help with spelling a word, type the first few letters of the word in the Search for box, and then press ENTER. In the Research task pane, under Can't find it?, click the nearest match in the spelling alternatives list.
- To turn on or off an item for searching, such as MSN Money Stock Quotes or a thesaurus for a particular language, click Research options in the Research task pane, and then select or clear the check boxes you want.
- To search for a phrase, begin by searching for each word individually. For example, type the first word of the phrase, and then check your result set. Often, the relevant phrases follow the single term results.
- To return relevant information, use three or four descriptive terms, rather than a single keyword.
- For more information, click any related links for the search result you're interested in, or scroll down to the Can't find it? section at the bottom of the Research task pane, and change the scope of your search. To broaden your research and get more results from the Web, click All Research Sites.
