Show which e-mail account a message came from

Applies to
Microsoft Office Outlook® 2003

If you use multiple e-mail accounts in Outlook, you can add the E-mail Account column to your Inbox (or other message list (message list: The middle part of the main Outlook window that displays the contents of the selected folder.) view) to show which account your messages came from.

Add the E-mail Account column

Depending on the view you are using, you can use the Arrange by command or the View menu to add the E-mail Account column. The Arrange by method is simpler, and this is available when you are using the multi-line layout view (view: Views give you different ways to look at the same information in a folder by putting it in different arrangements and formats. There are standard views for each folder. You can also create custom views.) of your Inbox or other message list view.

Tip   To quickly change between single-line and multi-line layout views, make your message list wider or narrower. In multi-line layout view, you will see the Arranged by: column heading.

Note   Whichever option you choose to use, if you don't see the E-mail Account column after you add it, you might need to widen your Inbox (or other message list view) to see the column, especially if you also have the Reading Pane (Reading Pane: A window in Outlook where you can preview an item without opening it. To display the item in the Reading Pane, click the item.) open. You can also change the position of the Reading Pane to the bottom of your Inbox.

By using the Arranged By column heading

  • In your Inbox, click the Arranged By column heading, and then click E-mail Account.
