When you reply to e-mail messages, sometimes you might find it faster and clearer to just reply to a statement right within the body of the original message. You can reply within the body of the original message by adding inline comments. By using inline comments when you reply, your text appears where you positioned the insertion point and is preceded with your name. Or, if you want, you can choose whatever text you'd like to identify
your comments.

Turn on inline comments and create identifying text
Inline comments work when you use HTML or Rich Text message formatting in your messages, but will not work in Plain Text message format.
How do I change my message format?
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Mail Format tab, in the Message Format section, in the Compose in this message format box, choose a format from the list.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Preferences tab, click E-mail Options.
- Select the Mark my comments with check box, and then type the text that you want to use to identify your comments. This text appears in brackets when you reply to a message and use inline comments.
Add inline comments to a message
- Open a message you have received, and then click Reply.
- Click the body of the sender's original message, and then start typing your comments.
