I can't find the folder where a message is stored

Applies to
Microsoft Office Outlook® 2003

Do you ever wonder where the messages that you see in Search Folders (Search Folders: Virtual folders that contain views of all e-mail items matching specific search criteria. The items remain stored in one or more Outlook folders.) are located? These messages are not saved in Search Folders, only viewed in them. For some tasks, you may need to know the folders where the messages are stored. As an example, for a message marked For Follow Up, you may want to find the location of the message so that you can see all the related messages in the thread and follow up effectively.

Find where a message is stored

  1. Open the message from the Search Folder.
  2. On the File menu, click Properties.

Next to Location, you can see the folder where the message is stored.
