Sharing information with Outlook 2001 for Mac users

PC users often need to share information with Macintosh® users, which can be frustrating and difficult. But there's good news for Outlook users. Outlook 2001 for Mac provides seamless information sharing and support for data formats based on Outlook on the Microsoft Windows® and Macintosh platforms.

The following table describes the interoperability between Outlook for Mac and Outlook for Windows.

Feature Comment
Appointments, meetings, free/busy (including tentative and out of office) Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows. Formatted text, attachments, recurrences, attendee tracking, and so on are fully supported.
Contacts and distribution lists Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows.
Tasks Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows.
Notes Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows.
Reminders Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows.
Inbox Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows. All data can also be made available offline.
Calendar Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows. All data can also be made available offline.
Personal folders (.pst) Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac uses the same format as Outlook for Windows.
Open another users folder Fully cross-platform. You can open any other Microsoft Exchange users default folders (Calendar, Contacts, and so on) with full read/write/edit capability if you have permissions. Opening secondary mailboxes is supported.
Public folders Fully cross-platform. Outlook for Mac supports reading and writing in all public folder types, such as Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, and so on. Custom views in public folders, Favorites, and working offline are the same as in Outlook for Windows.
Delegate access Fully cross-platform. All options are supported. Also, organizing meetings and so on can be managed from either platform with each of these scenarios supported: Macintosh to Windows, Windows to Macintosh, Macintosh to Macintosh.
