Using Outlook 2007 with or without Word 2007 installed

The Microsoft Office Word 2007 e-mail editor is the only built-in editor provided in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. The Word-based e-mail editor, which does not require that Office Word 2007 be installed, is always enabled and cannot be disabled. The Outlook editor is no longer available in Office Outlook 2007.

In earlier versions of Outlook, you could choose Word as your e-mail editor for composing and reading e-mail messages. Now in Outlook 2007, many Word 2007 features and commands are fully integrated with Outlook 2007 to make it a comprehensive e-mail message editor. However, more features and commands are available when you install Word 2007 with Outlook 2007. In the table below, you can compare the features and commands available with or without Word 2007 installed.

Some functionality from earlier versions of the e-mail editor is no longer available, including animated .gifs, embedded flash objects, and some advanced HTML and CSS formatting. You can use your Web browser to search the Web to find information about alternative ways to reproduce some of this functionality.
