Animation that shows how to add a calendar item from Outlook.
As you saw on the previous page, once you connect the SharePoint calendar to Outlook and view it from there, it looks very similar to your main Outlook calendar. Once you make the connection, you'll be able to create, modify, or even delete events and appointments in the SharePoint calendar just as you do in your own main calendar.
Note You'll need to have the correct permissions to the calendar on the SharePoint site in order to create, modify, or delete items there. (To get them, contact the person who set up the SharePoint calendar.)
The entries you make in the shared calendar through Outlook are visible in the calendar on the SharePoint site, too.
You've probably already thought of this, but we think it's worth mentioning anyway: Because the calendar is shared, many things you do in the shared calendar — such as making new appointments, changing them, or deleting them — have the potential to impact others. Your potential impact is a good thing to keep in mind as you add new items and especially if you change or delete existing items.
To create a new calendar entry, you'll start by clicking in the shared calendar in Outlook. You'll find the complete steps in the Quick Reference Card at the end of this course (we've also included the steps to check whether you have the correct permissions to add or modify items). To see an animated example and to get a general sense of how this works, click Play above the picture.
