Download an IMAP folder list

Downloading an IMAP (IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): Unlike Internet e-mail protocols such as POP3, IMAP creates folders on a server to store/organize messages for retrieval by other computers. You can read message headers only and select which messages to download.) folder list displays all folders that are created with your account on the server. You can then select which folders you want to subscribe to or view on your computer.

ShowTo display the folders when you want to subscribe or unsubscribe

  1. In Mail, in the Navigation Pane, click a folder under your IMAP account.
  2. On the Tools menu, click IMAP Folders.
  3. Click Query.

ShowTo display the folders in the Microsoft Outlook Navigation Pane

  1. In Mail, in the Navigation Pane (Navigation Pane: The column on the left side of the Outlook window that includes panes such as Shortcuts or Mail and the shortcuts or folders within each pane. Click a folder to show the items in the folder.), click a folder under your IMAP account.
  2. On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive, and then click Update Folder List.

 Note   In the IMAP Folders dialog box (Tools menu, IMAP Folders command), if the When displaying hierarchy in Outlook, show only subscribed folders check box is selected, only the folders you are subscribed to will appear when you download folders.
