Managing Tools on the Web and Office on the Web

Microsoft Office XP includes two menu items in each application that direct users to more information and services on the Microsoft Web site. The Tools on the Web (Tools menu) and Office on the Web (Help menu) commands both open a browser window and direct users to the Office Online Web site, where they can find tools and add-ins that work with Office XP (Tools | Tools on the Web) or additional help and information about Office XP (Help | Office on the Web). If you do not want the users in your organization to be able to connect to the Office Web site from these menus, you can disable the commands by using system policies.

Each Office application has the Tools on the Web and Office on the Web commands, and you must disable the commands for each application individually. To disable the commands, open the System Policy editor, and for each application, disable the following options under the Application\Disable items in user interface\Predefined\Disable command bar buttons and menu items policy:

Disable menu item: Tools | Tools on the Web

Disable menu item: Help | Office on the Web

For more information about using system policies to control user options, see Using System Policies in the Office XP Resource Kit.
