No Default Welcome Message with Outlook 2003 Service Pack 1

With Microsoft Outlook 2003 Service Pack 1 and later, the “Welcome to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003” message does not appear automatically in new users' Inboxes as it did in the first release of Outlook 2003. You can provide the welcome message to a group of users by using two registry keys.

To add the Outlook welcome message

  1. On the Add/Remove Registry Entries page of the Custom Installation Wizard or the Custom Maintenance Wizard, add the following registry key:
  2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Setup\CreateWelcome
    Data type: DWORD
    Data value: 1
  3. Remove the following registry key:
  4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Setup\First-Run

This procedure enables the feature in all versions of Outlook.

For more information about adding or removing registry keys by using the Custom Installation Wizard, see “Specify registry key settings” in Customizing Outlook Features and Installation with the Custom Installation Wizard.
