If you are installing Microsoft® Office 2003 throughout your organization for the first time, you can
install Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) at the same time, ensuring that all new installations are up to date. Using a utility named OHotFix.exe (included with each Office update), you can apply SP1 automatically at the end of the Office 2003 installation.
| Steps |
Reference |

Copy the Office 2003 CD to a shared folder on the network. This
step creates a compressed installation image.
Taking Advantage of a Local Installation Source

Create a new folder named Patches in the Files folder on the installation image.

Download the client version of Office 2003 SP1 (Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe) from the Microsoft Download Center. Do not run the EXE file; save the file to a location different from the installation image.

Extract the Office 2003 SP1 MSP file from the EXE file and save it to the installation image by using the following command line:
[path]\Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe /c /t:[path]\Files\Patches
OHotFix.exe, along with OHotFix.ini and OHotFix.dll, are also extracted from the download to the Patches folder.

Open OHotFix.ini and customize the way OHotFix runs (optional).
For example, to run OHotFix without user interaction, set the OHotfixUILevel to q.

Open the Office 2003 Setup.ini file (in the Files\Setup folder on the installation image) and add OHotFix.exe to the [ChainedInstall_1] section. If the section does not exist, add it to the INI file. Specify the task type for OHotFix as EXE. You can use a relative path in Setup.ini to specify the location of OHotFix.

Deploying Office and Other Products Together |

Run Office Setup.
Setup copies the entire installation image, including the Patches folder, to each user’s computer. After Office is installed, OHotFix runs and applies all the updates in the Patches folder in alphabetical order. You can change the order in which the patches are applied by modifying the names of the MSP files.
