Administrators can configure an installation of Microsoft® Office 2003 that restricts users' access to some or all menu options by using policies, the Custom Installation Wizard, or the Custom Maintenance Wizard.
By default, Microsoft Windows® XP automatically restricts access to the registry and the file system for users without administrative privileges, thereby providing a locked-down configuration. To lock down Windows 2000, see Registry Overview in the "Microsoft Windows 2000 Scripting Guide," or Hardening Systems and Servers: Checklists and Guides.
If you lock registry nodes or restrict access to folders on the hard disk, you could create problems for custom Office solutions that attempt to make changes to these areas. After you create a lock-down configuration, you might need to reconfigure some security settings.
