Office 2000 Service Release 1a Now Available

Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a) includes the original Office 2000 SR-1 update and the Office 2000/Windows 2000 Registry Repair Utility. If you have not yet upgraded to Office 2000 SR-1, download and install Office 2000 SR-1a.

The Office 2000/Windows 2000 Registry Repair Utility corrects problems encountered by customers who install Office 2000 under Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0 and subsequently upgrade to Microsoft Microsoft Windows® 2000 and Office 2000 SR-1. For example, the Search command on the Start menu might not function as expected, or Internet Explorer might fail to start when you click hyperlinks in some Office documents.

These problems are caused by improperly registered dynamic link library (DLL) files. Installing Office 2000 SR-1a with the Office 2000/Windows 2000 Registry Repair Utility automatically registers the DLL files, and Office 2000 applications function correctly after the upgrade.

Toolbox    The Office Resource Kit includes the Office 2000 SR-1a administrator update. You can find this downloadable file on the Office 2000 Resource Kit Downloads page.

If you have already upgraded from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 and applied the Office 2000 SR-1 update, you can also install and run the Office 2000/Windows 2000 Registry Repair Utility (O9regfix.exe) separately, without redeploying Office 2000 SR-1. For more information, see Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a) Update - Important Information for Windows 2000 Users on the Office Update Web site.

If you have already installed the Office 2000 SR-1 update and have no plans to upgrade from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000, then you do not need to install the utility or Office 2000 SR-1a.
