When Microsoft Office 2000 was released, certain updates to Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) were needed to install Office 2000 correctly with either Systems Management Server version 2.0 or 1.2. These updates were released as hot fixes and were included in the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit.

Systems Management Server 2.0, Service Pack 1 has now replaced the hot fix for SMS 2.0. Future SMS 1.2 service packs (that is, service packs after Systems Management Server 1.2, Service Pack 4) will also replace the hot fix for SMS 1.2.

The Systems Management Server downloads in the Office Resource Kit Toolbox have been updated to reflect current and future releases of SMS service packs. Changes include the following:

• Updated Systems Management Server documentation for Office 2000

  The white papers that describe how to install Office 2000 by using Systems Management Server have been updated to include information about using the SMS service packs.

• Repackaged Systems Management Server sample files

  This download now contains only the sample package definition files for SMS 1.2 and 2.0; the hot fixes have been removed. The SMS 2.0 hot fix (SMS20o2k.exe) has been superceded by Service Pack 1 and is no longer available.

• Separate download for Systems Management Server 1.2 hot fix

  The SMS 1.2 hot fix (SMS12o2k.exe) is now available as a separate downloadable file that accompanies the Systems Management Server sample files. Download the hot fix if you are deploying Office 2000 with SMS 1.2, Service Pack 4 or earlier.

Toolbox   The Office Resource Kit includes the updated files that you need to install Office 2000 by using Systems Management Server 2.0 or 1.2. See the Systems Management Server documentation and Systems Management Server sample files in the Toolbox and download the files O2kSMS12.exe, O2kSMS20.exe, SMSInfo.exe, and SMS12fix.exe. Using Systems Management Server 2.0

The files installed with Systems Management Server version 2.0, Service Pack 1 replace the files in the SMS20o2k.exe hot fix. If you have already installed SMS 2.0, Service Pack 1 or later, do not apply the hot fix from the Office Resource Kit. However, you can safely install the service pack over the hot fix.

Use the following table to determine whether you need to install SMS 2.0, Service Pack 1.

Caution  Do not install the hot fix SMS20o2k.exe if you have already installed SMS 2.0, Service Pack 1 or later. If you apply the hot fix over SMS 2.0, Service Pack 1, several files are overwritten with outdated versions, and your installation no longer works.

Using Systems Management Server 1.2

For Systems Management Server version 1.2, Service Pack 4 or earlier, you must install the SMS12o2k.exe hot fix to use the Office 2000 Systems Management Server tools.
