Learn How to Customize Outlook Today

June 25, 1999

Microsoft Outlook® 2000 provides a unique view for displaying appointments, tasks, and other information in the form of a Web page. You can customize the Outlook Today page for your organization, or for individuals or groups within your organization, to display the information most relevant to them.

A new white paper is now available to guide you through the process of customizing Outlook Today. This document describes Outlook Today features that are new to Outlook 2000, and helps you accomplish the following tasks:

  • Add custom content and functionality to the Outlook Today page, including text, links, graphics, styles, ActiveX® controls, and scripting.
  • Choose a distribution method for your customized Outlook Today page. You can distribute Outlook Today as an HTM file or in a DLL file.
  • Avoid browser-related display errors.
  • Disable Outlook Today for your organization.

Sample versions of the Outlook Today source files are also available. You can customize these files and use them in place of the default Outlook Today files stored on your hard drive.

Toolbox   The Office Resource Kit includes the Customizing Outlook Today white paper, sample Outlook.htm and Custom.htm source files, and an example of a customized page with GIF files. See the Outlook Today information and sample files section of the Toolbox and download the OutToday.exe and OutExmpl.exe files. You can find this downloadable file on the Office 2000 Resource Kit Downloads page.
