When you upgrade to Microsoft Outlook® 2000, your organization might prefer to use the familiar Inbox Assistant, rather than the new Rules Wizard. In two steps, you can activate the Inbox Assistant and turn off the Rules Wizard.
To implement the new setting throughout your organization, use the Office Profile Wizard to capture the setting in an OPS file, and then add the OPS file to the Custom Installation Wizard. When users install Outlook 2000, they see the Inbox Assistant instead of the Rules Wizard.
Add the Rules Wizard
Before you turn off the Rules Wizard, you must add it to the list of add-ins for Outlook 2000 (even though the wizard is already part of Outlook 2000). To list the Rules Wizard in the Outlook Add-In Manager, you edit the Rwiz1.ecf file.
To add the Rules Wizard to the Outlook Add-In Manager
- Open Rwiz1.ecf in a text editor such as Notepad.
The default location for Rwiz1.ecf is \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Addins.
- Under the [General] section, place a semicolon at the beginning of the following line:
- Save Rwiz1.ecf.
Activate the Inbox Assistant
You turn off the Rules Wizard and activate the Inbox Assistant by using the Outlook Add-In Manager.
To activate the Inbox Assistant
- On the Outlook 2000 Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
- Click Advanced Options.
- Click Add-In Manager.
- Click Install and add Rwiz1.ecf.
- In the Add-In Manager, clear the check box next to the Rules Wizard.
To verify that your change has taken place, look at the Outlook Tools menu. The Inbox Assistant command appears in place of the Rules Wizard command.
Tip To reactivate the Rules Wizard, just run the Outlook Add-In Manager and select the check box next to the Rules Wizard.
