Updated versions of several Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit tools are now available on the Office Resource Kit Web site.

Office Resource Kit core tool set

The following Office Resource Kit tools have been updated for Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1):

• Internet Explorer Administration Kit (version 5.0.2809.2500)
• Profile Wizard INI file
• Language Version utility (version 9.00.0028)

Internet Explorer Administration Kit updated for Office 2000 SR-1

You can start the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) directly from the Custom Installation Wizard to customize how Internet Explorer 5.01 is installed with Office 2000 SR-1. These customizations are applied when you install Office.

The latest version of the IEAK includes a fix that allows you to make corporate branding changes – default colors, title bar text, and so on. In addition to being available on the Internet Explorer Web site, this version of the IEAK is now included in the Office Resource Kit core tool set.

Note   This version of the IEAK 5.01 (version 5.0.2809.2500) replaces the original IEAK 5.01 (version 5.0.2809.2400) that was distributed on the Internet Explorer Web site prior to the release of Office 2000 SR-1.

Profile Wizard INI file updated for Office 2000 SR-1

You use the Profile Wizard to save and deploy a standard user profile when you deploy Office 2000 so that all users start with the same settings. The updated version of Office Resource Kit core tool set includes a revised Proflwiz.ini file that excludes more settings than the previous version.

These exclusions ensure that settings are applied properly on users' computers when you deploy Office 2000 with an OPS file. For example, the updated wizard excludes path information specific to a given user – paths that are not valid when deployed throughout an organization.

The updated INI file also allows the Profile Wizard to properly migrate Office 97 settings on users' computers when the transform includes an OPS file and also specifies to migrate user settings.

Language Version utility updated for Chinese languages

Office 2000 SR-1 requires an updated version of the Language Version utility (Langver.exe version 9.00.0028). Multilingual organizations that need to switch their installation language to Traditional or Simplified Chinese must download the new version of the tool.

When you install Office, the installation language setting governs the default behavior. For example, if the installation language is set to Chinese, Office applications display commands that allow you to work with Asian text. Under a non-Asian installation language setting, these commands are hidden. The installation language is set when you install Office 2000 and can only be changed with the Language Version utility.

Office 2000 Converter Pack

When you install Office 2000 to run over the network (the Run from Server installation option), the application executable (EXE) files and standard converters reside on the network, and users run them from there. If users with this Office configuration attempt to use the additional converters in the Microsoft Office Converter Pack, however, Convpack.exe looks for the application EXE files on the local hard drive and fails.

The updated version of Convpack.exe (version 5.00.2920) properly detects the correct installation source for Office 2000 and runs the additional converters. In addition, the new Converter Pack includes several other improvements:

• The latest converters that ship with Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1
• Improvements in Microsoft Word converters

If you run Office 2000 over the network and you are not planning to install Office 2000 SR-1, install the latest version of the Converter Pack to get the latest set of converters. You only need to run Convpack.exe once from a client computer that has access to the Office installation source on the network. Note that the Office 2000 SR-1 update already includes the new Converter Pack and automatically updates converters.
