Deploying Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack Extras

December 16, 1999

Microsoft Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack includes plug-in language features that allow users to change the languages of the user interface and Help. Each MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM also includes an Extras folder that contains additional tools and files for users working in a multilingual environment.

These extra tools are not included in the MultiLanguage Pack Setup program. However, you can install selected items from the Extras folder when you install MultiLanguage Pack files from an administrative installation point on the network.

Tip   Some MultiLanguage Pack files take up considerable space. When you install the Extras folder on your administrative installation point, delete the tools and languages that users do not need. This step saves valuable space on the server and also prevents users from installing unnecessary tools or languages.

The Extras folder on each MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM includes most of the following tools and files. Not all items in the Extras folder use the same Setup technology. For example, some files are copied manually to users’ computers, and other files use Microsoft Windows® Installer or ACME Setup. The type of Setup technology determines how you add the feature to your MultiLanguage Pack installation.

Tool in Extras folder File name Setup technology
Localized Excel add-ins Various File copy
Localized Excel object libraries Instolb.exe Object Library Installer
FixText (font substitution) Eefonts.dot Run macro FixTextMain in Word to install new fonts
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 user interface IEUI<langabbr>.exe ACMESetup
Input Method Editors (IMEs) Msjaime.exe (Japanese), Mshaime.exe (Korean), Msscaime.exe (Simplified Chinese), Mstcaime.exe (Traditional Chinese) Setup.exe Windows Installer (Japanese) or ACMESetup
Microsoft Jet 4.0 user interface Msjint40.dll, Mswstr10.dll File copy
Outlook forms(Exchange Forms Designer) Efd.exe ACMESetup
Outlook at Work Fax patch (Microsoft at Work Fax patch) Awfaxpch.exe ACMESetup
Virtual Keyboard Vkeyinst.exe Windows Installer
Extras installed through a separate Setup program

Some Extras, such as Microsoft Outlook® Forms and Outlook at Work FAX patch, are installed by using a separate Setup program. You can add these Setup programs to your transform on the Add Installations and Run Programs panel of the Custom Installation Wizard. Specify the location of the source files on the administrative installation point.

Of the separate Setup programs listed in the table, only the following programs support a quiet installation:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 user interface
  • Outlook forms
  • Outlook at Work FAX patch

Tip   In addition to quiet installation options, these three Setup programs support other command-line options. Type /? at the command line to see a list of available options.

Extras installed by copying the files

For Extras that are installed by copying the files, use the Add Files to the Installation panel of the Custom Installation Wizard to add the files to your MultiLanguage Pack transform.

Input Method Editors

Input Method Editors (IMEs) are available for most Asian languages. The IME folder for each IME includes a Readme.txt file with information about how to configure your computer to use the IME. In addition, each Readme.txt file contains information about special requirements for installing the IME under Windows Terminal Server.

The IMEs for Asian languages do not use the same Setup technology. Most IMEs use ACMESetup. The Japanese version uses Windows Installer technology; however, you cannot use the Custom Installation Wizard to create a transform for the Japanese IME.

Important   For users running a nonAsian version of Microsoft Windows NT® version 4.0, do not install more than two Asian or Universal fonts. These fonts include many characters and might not display properly if more than two are installed on a computer running Windows NT version 4.0, due to memory limitations with fonts.
