Identify the Product for Custom Error Messages

September 17, 1999

When you customize an error message, you must uniquely identify the error message you want to change. To do so, you not only need the error message number, but you also need to know which Microsoft Office 2000 application generates the error message.

For example, each Office 2000 application has an error message for situations in which a printer is not installed. If you want to customize this error message for Word, you must include both the error message number and identify Word as the product.

Each Office 2000 product that supports custom error messages has a unique code that identifies the product. These codes are called globally unique identifiers (GUIDs). The GUIDs for Office 2000 applications are listed in the following table.

Office application GUID
Microsoft Access {CC29E96F-7BC2-11D1-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}
Microsoft Excel {CC29E963-7BC2-11D1-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}
Microsoft Outlook® {CC29E94B-7BC2-11D1-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}
Microsoft PowerPoint® {CC29E967-7BC2-11D1-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}
Microsoft Word {CC29EA4B-7BC2-11D1-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}
Microsoft Graph {CC29E975-7BC2-11D1-A921-10A0C91E2AA2}
Shared Office features {CC29E943-7BC2-11D1-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}

Note   The Office Shared GUID works for error messages shared between two or more Office applications. For example, the Find Fast feature uses the Office Shared GUID.

After you have identified the error message by number, specified the product GUID, and included a country code (if you want to specify which language is being used), you are ready to customize the error message.
