Customize the OSE Browse Web Folders View

January 13, 2000

You can give users a richer experience by customizing the Web Folders view for your Office Server Extensions (OSE) Web site. When users click the Browse Web Folders link on the OSE Start Page, they are redirected to a list of folders and documents on that OSE-extended web. They can use this list to browse through the files and folders on your web.

When you enable Web Folders, you are provided with a default view for this page, called AutoNavigation view. You can enhance the page by adding sounds, pictures (such as a company logo), or other HTML or scripting elements. This page is an Active Server Pages (ASP) page, so you can use either HTML code or Microsoft Visual BasicĀ® Scripting Edition (VBScript) to enhance AutoNavigation view.

The Office Resource Kit includes information about AutoNavigation view and how to customize it. Find out how to modify the AutoNavigation object in VBScript to filter or sort the documents that are displayed or to add counts of the documents to the page.

For example, you can create a page that allows users to search a folder and return all files larger than a given size. Or you can allow users to customize the view so they have a personalized view of their folder. You can even open the page in Microsoft FrontPageĀ® 2000 and apply a theme to match the rest of your site.
